The Sitka Community Wellness Fair/Gear Swap takes place on Saturday, March 3, at Harrigan Centennial Hall and the adjacent Crescent Harbor Shelter. The fair runs from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. There will be door prizes, activities for the kids, free car seat checks (from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.), entertainment and demonstrations from health care providers throughout the day.
For $25 you can get a lipids panel done, which is a blood test that screens several key heart health numbers, such as cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL. Payment is due at the time of the blood draw, and please refrain from eating for 12 hours prior to your test (taking regular medications and drinking water is OK).
As Sitka shifts its focus to the importance of wellness and fitness, many traditional ways of staying active and eating healthy foods are being recognized at the fair. In addition to a wide range of tables from health care and complimentary health care providers, we also are planning an outdoor activity and exercise gear swap. Any gear used to stay active is welcome, from subsistence gear to bicycles and barbells. Firearms, ammunition and fireworks are unacceptable. Space still is available for recreational gear swap tables and shelter space.
