Home modification seminar at Home Show

JUNEAU - As part of Southeast Alaska Building Industry Association's 31st annual Home Show, the seminar "Home Modifications For a Lifetime" will be held Saturday, March 6 at Centennial Hall.

"Our goal is to get information to the public on how they can modify their home as they age," said Liz Lucas of AARP's Juneau Community Council. "Aging in place, as in aging in your own home, is what most people want."

Doug Fanyak, Aging and Disability Resource Center Coordinator for Southeast Alaska Independent Living, will facilitate the seminar.

Panelists will include knowledgeable people on subjects such as universal design, home design and modification, housing choices, checklists, adaptive devices for the home, financing information to help in remodeling, and more.

Within the session period there will be ample time to view the adaptive devices, ask questions, and receive written materials that will assist you in making educated decisions.

AARP Community Council will share a booth at the Home Show with Southeast Senior Services and Southeast Alaska Independent Living Council. At the booth, there will be a variety of free materials provided on home design and modification, universal design features and products, housing choices, and checklists.

AARP/SAIL/SESS advocates for home modification projects as they so often mean the difference between older Americans being forced to move or be able to continue to live in their own home.

The home modification seminar is free and open to the public.
