JUNEAU - Lawmakers in Alaska are considering a proposal that would reinstate the death penalty. The state abolished capital punishment in 1957.
If passed, the law would allow execution by lethal injection in cases of first-degree murder. Each death sentence would be automatically undergo review by the state Supreme Court. The bill's sponsor is House Speaker Mike Chenault.
