SITKA - Young Alaskans Building Affordable Housing (YABAH) is now accepting applications for the 2009 session. YABAH is a 10-month program providing an opportunity for young Alaskans (16-24) to gain work experience and acquire skills in the construction industry by building a residential home, developing leadership and continuing education towards a GED. Participants will earn a monthly living allowance and upon successful completion of the program, an AmeriCorps education award of $1800. The program is looking for young people who are ready to work hard to make positive changes in their lives and who have a strong desire to learn basic construction skills, as well as participate in vocational training, academic education and career counseling. Applications are available at the Sitka Job Center and at 205 Baranof Street and are due March 2. The program will start in mid-March.
