KETCHIKAN - Families are invited to a "Green Eggs and Ham" breakfast at St. John's Church on Saturday, February 28 from 8am-10am. The cost for the breakfast is $5 per person and will include eggs, ham, Sailor Boy Pilot Bread, and beverages. All profits will go to "First Book Southeast Alaska."
Families are encouraged to bring their favorite Sailor Boy Pilot Bread topping or recipe. A prize of $25 cash will be awarded to the best use of Sailor Boy Pilot Bread.
Sailor Boy Pilot Bread is partnering with First Book in Alaska for the "Feeding Hungry Minds" campaign. Throughout the month of March, all Sailor Boy Pilot Bread boxes will carry the First Book Logo and an invitation for cracker crunchers to "help share the magic of reading." For every limited edition box of crackers sold in March, 50 cents will be donated to First Book "to provide new books to children in need throughout Alaska."
First Book Southeast Alaska has been distributing books to programs serving low-income children since May of 2005. The First Book advisory board meets monthly and gives grants several times a year. For more information or to get involved with First Book Southeast Alaska, please contact Charlotte Glover at the Ketchikan Public Library.
