JUNEAU - This month, local researcher Mark Whitman will present The Douglas Island Gun: Alaskan History Hiding in Plain Sight. Seated outside the Douglas Library, the Douglas Island gun goes somewhat unnoticed by passerby's. However, Whitman states that this "cast-iron gun, it's muzzle long sealed... could trace the path of Alaskan history from the early fur trade to the present. The Douglas Island gun points to a Northwest narrative whose repercussions are still felt today."
