Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, February 26-March 7. The festival started 75 years ago as a way to welcome miners and trappers to town. It features a fur auction, blanket toss, snowshoe-softball tournament, outhouse races, ice bowling, the Miners and Trappers Ball, and the Rondy World Championship Sled Dog Race. Skagway's Buckwheat Ski Classic, March 27. 50K, 25K and 10K cross country ski races, as well as a 5K kids race. Pre-and post-race events in Skagway include a fabulous awards banquet and dance at the historic Eagles Hall. The race is a fund-raiser for the Skagway Ski Club and traditionally hosts more than 200 participants from Alaska, the Yukon and elsewhere. Details: (907) 983-2854.
