Cannabis (aka marijuana) has been used for thousands of years as a helpful medicine, an alternative for cotton, and even used to make houses. Why make such a helpful plant illegal? It's nonsense. Cannabis should be legalized.
To begin with, marijuana can help many mental and physical diseases. It can help simple things like headaches, stomachaches, loss of appetite, minor and chronic pain, and stress. It doesn't stop there though; it can help major diseases and make untreatable diseases more bearable. Marijuana has been proven to help people with schizophrenia maintain superior neoropsyological functioning and help people with eating disorders such as anorexia.
Not only helpful as a medicine, Cannabis can be used as an alternative cloth, paper, fuel, and more. Since it can be turned into cloth and paper, it could be really helpful resource-wise and economic-wise. We wouldn't have to cut down so many tree's and cotton plants. Marijuana can also be used as fuel, which would be a major help all around. Less gross gasses polluting the air and prices of fuel would go down. It would only take 6 percent of our U.S. land to produce enough hemp fuel to make us energy independent from the rest of the world.
Also legalization of cannabis would help prevent major drug use. It's been claimed that marijuana is a "Gateway Drug" but actually it's the opposite. In a study that took place in Amsterdam, after marijuana was legalized use of major drugs like heroin went down. Marijuana, unlike other drugs, doesn't cause tolerance. It's truly been thought to do the opposite, which means the longer you use it the less you need. So you wouldn't be tempted to try harder drugs.
This helpful plant should be legalized. It can be used as a medicine for many things, and can even be used to replace paper, cloth, and fuel. Open your mind and realize this so called "Dangerous Drug" is really just a misunderstood helpful plant that could change the world.
