Celebrate the annual Winter Fireworks Spectacular at Eaglecrest Ski Area on Saturday, Feb. 16. This Juneau celebration of winter is expected to bring as many as 3,000 guests to the ski area in 2013. There will be live music by local band, Tramwreck, and the event includes bonfires, extended hours for skiing and dining, and a light show. The light show consists of both a torchlight parade down Muskeg trail and a fireworks display by the Juneau fireworks crew.
Local businesses fund the entire event, which includes one of the most intimate winter fireworks displays in the country.
"This is one of many events at Eaglecrest that anyone in Juneau can enjoy," said General Manager Matt Lillard. "The lights and sounds bouncing to-and-fro across the mountain backdrop bring a sense of awe to people of all ages."
Veterans of the event advise newcomers to dress for the weather and prepare to see a fireworks display that's up close and personal.
"It's an incredible way to spend an evening celebrating outdoors with family and friends," said resident Barb Lindh, who has attended each winter celebration at Eaglecrest since it first began when the Olympic Torch Relay passed through Juneau on Jan. 24, 2001.
In celebration of the brilliant fireworks display, Eaglecrest will be offering guests wearing neon colors five dollars off the price of a lift ticket on February 16. Season-pass holders wearing neon will receive a five-dollar coupon for the Eaglecrest Grill.
