Ketchikan man charged in stabbing

KETCHIKAN - A 47-year-old Ketchikan man accused of stabbing a woman is being held for violating his probation. Police say other charges are pending.

Andrew Smith is charged with stabbing a middle-aged woman Feb. 6 in an apartment. Police Chief Ed Talik did not identify the victim.He said police early Friday afternoon took a call of a woman bleeding in her building lobby. The woman had suffered cuts on her arm and body. Police found Smith about 90 minutes later on a nearby street and charged him with the probation violation for disobeying a protective order.Talik said he anticipates filing other charges. The woman was taken to Ketchikan General Hospital and is expected to recover.
