Juneau Dance Unlimited is now Juneau Dance Theatre, following a unanimous vote by the group's membership at their annual meeting. The 39-year old dance school and Fine Arts Camp producer made the change to better reflect its mission and reputation in the Juneau performing arts community and Southeast Alaska, according to a release.
JDT is a non-profit organization currently offering 17 classes that include classical ballet technique, modern dance, theatre dance, musical theatre, hip hop and young children's movement classes. Classes run year-round and enrollment is over 200 students, ages three to adult. JDT also hosts visiting instructors from professional dance companies.
The school's original mission has evolved from providing workshops given by visiting artists to a full-time performing arts dance school. Today, JDT's mission is to nurture self-discipline, confidence, mental and physical fitness and creativity through professional dance instruction and performance opportunities; to foster an appreciation of the art of dance in the Juneau community; and to develop artistic creativity and skills in both visual and performing arts through its annual Fine Arts Camp.
JDT is located above Alaska Litho at 8420 Airport Boulevard.
