JUNEAU - The sixth annual Community Arts Celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Thunder Mountain High School commons.
This free family event will feature numerous "make and take home" project tables allowing artists of all ages to create Athabaskan Action Figures, paintings, sketches, die cut bears, valentines, block prints, accordion books, Raven's Tail baskets, encaustic paintings, toothbrush paintings, doodle and comic book art, sketchbooks, pinwheels, leather bracelets, Tongan Tapas, artsy hats and bags, tie dyed paper, sketches of silly models, and wire beaded bracelets.
Large easels will be set up for painting and pottery wheels will be spinning throughout the afternoon so that folks have an opportunity to throw pots. A city of clay will also be evolving over the course of the day.
Local artists will not only be hosting art projects but also will be demonstrating their talents. Come watch Gene Chilton carve silver, Dan Branch carve wood, Charles Rohrbacher paint Icons, and Arnie Weimer create character sketches of Arts Celebration participants.
Many local non-profits, district art teachers, community artists and volunteers are sharing their talents and afternoon to make this event possible. The event is sponsored in part by the Douglas-Dornan Foundation. All proceeds from the sale of sweets, SmART candy bars, and Rie Munoz art prints will benefit the TMHS and JDHS Senior Visual Arts Scholarship program.
