UAS fish tech faculty to receive lifetime achievement award

SITKA – Jim Seeland, Assistant Professor of Fisheries Technology at the University of Alaska Southeast, received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 Alaska Fish Culture Conference at the Sitka Sound Science Center (SSSC).

Seeland is a former SSSC board member, and a member of the Southeast Alaskan aquaculture community. He moved to Alaska in 1980 to work at a Pacific salmon enhancement facility in Prince William Sound. Two years later he relocated to Sitka to work for Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture where he helped to develop the Medvejie Salmon Hatchery.

Seeland continues to work with students in the UAS Fisheries Technology Program, which he helped develop.
