SITKA - Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to submit visual art pieces to the second annual Ode to Sitka Visual Arts Show, sponsored by Sitka Arti Gras and the Great Sitka Arts Council. Artists are asked to reflect upon their relationship with their town and its unique environment. Pieces will be on display only and not for sale. Artists are asked to register their work between 2 and 5 p.m. on March 8 at Harrigan Centennial Hall. The show will be on display March 9-10 during the Arti Gras festival. The arts council is seeking nominations for three awards that will be given during the Arti Gras festival: Sitka Artist of the Year, Sitka Art Advocate of the Year and Sitka Art Business of the Year. Nominations may be made in the form of a brief statement, no more than one page, sent to sitkaarts@yahoo.com or to the Greater Sitka Arts Council, ATTN: Artist of the Year, PO Box 564, Sitka, AK 99835. The closing date for nominations is Feb. 15.
Applications to participate in the fourth annual Sitka Wearable Art Show are due Feb. 8. The event is open to artists of any age, and the show will be held March 2-3.
