JUNEAU - John Straley will talk about his work in the genres of poetry, prose and private investigation on Saturday Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at the downtown Juneau library.
The Former Alaska Writer Laureate and Shamus Award winner will discuss variations in the narrative approach taken in his work as a novelist, poet and private investigator. Straley will also read from and discuss his two latest works, the novel "The Big Both Ways," and the poetry collection "The Rising and the Rain."
According to a Booklist review, "The Big Both Ways" is "a rich tale... part mystery and part action-adventure... almost Dickension vignettes of the working conditions in the canneries and the waterfronts of the Northwest."
According to Straley's website, The Rising and the Rain is "local at inception but universal in scope. Straley's narrative poems encompass the personal and political. Sometimes finding humor and solace in the absurd, they always return to the abiding source of life along this wild stretch of the Pacific."
A short Q&A and signing will follow and both books will be available for purchase.
