35th annual learn to ski weekend

Eaglecrest is accepting applications for its 35th annual Learn to Ski Weekend on Jan. 28-29. Over the weekend, third, fourth and fifth graders in Juneau who have never skied before will come to Eaglecrest and learn. A random drawing of the applications will select the 40 winners to receive bus transportation, ski rentals, lift tickets, ski lessons, and lunch both Saturday and Sunday.

Through sponsorship from Mendenhall Auto and Subaru, Eaglecrest has been able to continue the tradition of Learn to Ski Weekend and encourage the youth of Juneau to experience the outdoors while learning something new.

Jeffra Clough, Eaglecrest’s director of sales and marketing, said in the release that the program has taught more than 1,200 kids to ski over 25 years. “Many have gone on to be patrollers and instructors in the industry,” she added.

Nick Svinicki, a former participant of Learn to Ski Weekend and a current instructor and coordinator of school programs at Eaglecrest says, “this program taught me to love sliding on snow at a young age and I’m excited that we can share that with future skiers.”
