NEWS Photo Courtesy Of Joan Pardes From the Basement is a new weekly feature that will highlight interesting items from the Capital City Weekly basement. Our basement has many interesting artifacts from our past - and past building owners - along with our photo archive. Sometimes we will share a shot of something interesting squirreled away downstairs. Other times we'll share an interesting photo we have found in our files, as sort of a "remember when."

From the Basement: Kiss a Pig

Comprised of girls that attend the Juneau Community Charter School, Gastineau and Harborview Elementary Schools, along with home-schooled families, Girl Scout Troop 4036 recently achieved their year-long goal of a three-day outing to Whitehorse, Canada. To achieve this goal, the girls sold nuts and cookies, performed holiday songs at public events, delivered singing valentines, and sang for tourists on the cruise ship docks. The troop also received generous donations from Hecla/Greens Creek Mine, IBEW (Juneau Chapter - Local 1547), Fred Meyer, and Super Bear Supermarket. The girls would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the businesses and organizations that made this trip (that included horse back riding, a visit to a dog sled yard and exercising puppies) possible. Thank you from troop 4036!
