Alaska writer Nick Jans released his ninth book this month, entitled "Glacier Wolf: True Stories of Life in Southeast Alaska." The self-published volume of essays includes 26 stories of life in Southeast Alaska. Most involve natural encounters of sort sort - with black and brown bears, red squirrels, killer whales, humpbacks and a baby mink. As the title suggests, several essays describe recurring encounters with Romeo, the black male wolf frequently seen near the Mendenhall Glacier in the winter time.
