A new study says Mt. Edgecumbe, a state-run boarding school, is receiving praise from recent graduates, reported the Anchorage Daily News.

The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Emergency Medical Services department is offering a Wilderness Medical Associates Challenge and Recertification Course that takes place on April 18-20 at the SEARHC Community Health Services Building, First Floor Conference Room.

Few people get to watch real emergency room doctors in action, be with operating room staff during surgery or even watch a dentist performing a root canal. Southeast Alaska Native high school students can experience these and other opportunities when they participate in the Ethel Lund Village Health Occupations Program (VHOP).

The second National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day takes place on Thursday, March 20, and the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) would like to honor those Alaska Natives, American Indians and Native Hawai'ians who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. On March 20, an information table about the impact of HIV/AIDS on Alaska Natives will be set up in the lobby of SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka.

The Sitka Employee Wellness Coalition has honored Sitka Tribe of Alaska with its Well Workplace of the Month award for March. The monthly award recognizes the efforts of Sitka organizations that promote employee wellness within their worksites.

The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital Dental Clinic in Sitka will hold a pediatric dental clinic the week of Jan. 7-11, with SEARHC and Kake Health Center will to hold the Denali KidCare pediatric dental clinic Jan. 14-18.

In August and September 2007, Sitka cyclist Brian McNitt took a two-month mountain bike ride from Montana to New Mexico along the Continental Divide, with 90 percent of the trek happening off pavement.
