Online Classifieds Help Page

It's easy to find the classified ads you want. Use search words and classifications to narrow the search to a particular subject area.

  • 1.Pick a classification with the pull down menu, or enter one or more search words, or both. Example: select Automotive/Transportation and enter search words "Ford truck." Click the SEARCH button.

    • A. Selecting "Search All" without a search word will return all the ads of this publication, initially showing all the ads in the first classification. Click the next classification links in the right hand frame to continue browsing additional classifications.
    • B. "Search All" with a search word(s) will return every occurance of ads with that search word(s) regardless of classification, initially showing all the ads in the first classification. Click the next classification links in the right hand frame to continue browsing additional classifications.
    • C. A search word with a specific classification will limit the search to that just that classification. Similarly, selecting a classification without a search word will return all the ads for that classification.

  • 2. If you enter more than one search word, "and" is assumed and both words must be in the classified ad for it to be included in the results list. Example: "Ford Truck" means "Ford" and "truck." It will not return "Ford Car" or "Chevy Truck" unless they also coincidentally are in the same advertisement.

  • 3. You may use "or" by writing your selection in plain English or with the use of parentheses, brackets or braces. Example: "Ford red or blue" will give you red Fords and blue Fords. "Ford (red blue)" will return the same results.

  • 4. The results of a search will be displayed in a window frame with a second frame indicating other classifications that also include ads with the same search parameters. Example: "Ford truck" might return ads in Transportation and Auctions. All listings in the first classification will appear in the results frame. To see the other classifications, click on the links in the second frame. These classifications correlate to the newspaper's familiar organization of classifications.

  • 5. For Real Estate classifications, you have options to select ranges of pricing and the number of bedrooms. For Automotive/Transportation classifications, you have options to select ranges of pricing and year of make. Year and price ranges need to be listed from lowest to highest.

  • 6. Display ads sometimes appear in classified advertising. Small ads have clickable links that will display the ad in a larger more readable size. Use the "back" button to return to the standard classified listings.
